The growth of the lantern roof market

As any existing Astraseal customer will tell everyone, we’re all about giving reliable and trustworthy installers the best leg up possible in the industry. That’s why we want to help tradesmen capitalise on the continuing popularity boom of lantern roofs, offering three distinct styles that each offer their own unique benefits and help give you the edge.

Lantern Roofs: One of 2016’s fastest-growing sectors

If nothing else, 2016 was very much the year of the lantern roof. For this first time in the home improvement sector homeowners are recognising the benefits of incorporating such a product into their home or extension, especially if they want a solid roof style while also hoping to enjoy natural light. This unfortunately means that competition amongst installers is currently fierce, meaning that it’s more important than ever to find a niche.

While this staggering surge initially picked up pace last year, there are literally millions of flat roofs out there waiting to be enhance with a lantern roof. This means that for the foreseeable future it’d be a shame to miss out on it, especially when there is such potential growth to be had.

A higher demand for improved light in extended spaces

Astraseal adds Eurocell's innovative Skypod Acute to their roof lantern range

The performance, appearance and stock availability of lantern roofs can vary wildly, so to give our partnered installers the best chances possible at making an impact, we readily offer three lantern roof styles. The first two of which come in the form of Eurocell’s skypod range. Both place emphasis on delivering a minimalist design to better allow light to pass through and not disrupt the existing aesthetic of properties. Standard skypods utilise a fixed 20˚ angle whereas the Acute variant is 15˚ steeper.

Our third and final system is the stratus thermal lantern roof, which – as its name suggests – comes thermally broken to emphasise heat retention just as much as natural light entry. Available in 2-way, 3-way or more contemporary model designs, the lantern’s internal 24mm glazing and glass composite thermal breaks 533 times more thermally insulating than conventional aluminium, resulting in lower U-values.
